• Tilghman Island has a long history of hospitality.
• 1892 saw the first steamboat wharf in service to
bring visitors from Baltimore and Washington.
• Residents welcomed guests and summer
boarders to supplemented their income.
• By 1900 purpose built boarding houses were
being constructed for island guests.
• Roads replaced ferries in the 1920s allowing the
hospitality industry on Tilghman to grow.
• Island guests would sport fish, hunt, boat, and
enjoy the natural beauty and amenities of
Tilghman Island (as they still do today!
